BMW C Evolution Electric Scooter Prototype

This stylish scooter is currently introducted as a “near-production prototype” in London. BMW Motorrad expects to release the electric scooter soon, but no details when exactly it is available. With the goals to achieve performance figures that are comparable to those of a maxi scooter with a combustion engine and a long driving range, the BMW C Evolution Electric Scooter is conceived as a future scooter that would be perfect for an urban environment.

The styling cues of the BMW C Evolution were influenced by BMW’s Concept e scooter which was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. This near-production scooter is claimed  has outstanding performance for an e-scooter, its electric motor boasts 11 kW continuous output (homologation according to ECE R85) and 35 kW peak output. According to the BMW performance of the BMW C is said to be comparable with a 600-cc gas-powered scooter or more, thanks to its electric motor system. The electic motor is powered by an 8 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery with innovative air cooling, which has a range of 62 miles on a single full charge and can reach speeds of 120 km/h (75 mph).

The 8 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery can be charged in about 3 hours through a standard household socket or charging station. Since the BMW C Evolution Electric also has a car-type charging socket – the first electric two-wheel vehicle to have it-, the battery can also be charged at charge stations throughout the U.S.

The BMW C Evolution Electric Scooter Prototype rides on 15-inch light-alloy die-cast wheels wrapped in lightweight Metzeler Feelgreen tyres with optimised rolling resistance. Other features include ABS and a disc brake system, Hybrid chassis with agile handling, Multifunctional TFT instrument cluster with a progress bar, LED daytime running light, Innovative colour concept and design, intelligent recuperation in coasting mode and when braking and so on.
